Software Manager, Advanced Manufacturing (onsite)
About the role
Join the movement as a Builder on the Stack Forging Thermal Solutions team at Johnson Controls as a Software Manager, Advanced Manufacturing in Burlington, MA. In this role, you’ll be at the center of turning breakthrough thermal designs into reality.
Responsibilities
- Drive the overall architectural vision for Alloy’s proprietary slicer and controls software, focusing primarily on software product design and strategy, with a strategic balance between hands-on technical contribution and people management.
- Optimize the agile development process and rituals to ensure efficient delivery of high-quality software features.
- Manage team interfaces by serving as the primary facilitator and technical partner, collaborating effectively across the organization with the process, machines, production, and thermal design teams to align software development with system-wide goals.
- Maintain best practices by establishing and enforcing standards across the entire software development lifecycle, including code quality, documentation, testing, and deployment workflows.
- Grow the team by recruiting, mentoring, and managing a high-performing software team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and psychological safety.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience with software engineering, development, or related professional environments
- 2+ years of people management experience (direct reports)
- Experience leading software development in hardware-adjacent or physical systems (manufacturing, automation, robotics, embedded, or similar)
- Strong proficiency in C++, Python, or TypeScript
- Experience with software tied to physical systems (e.g., machine control, simulation, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing workflows)
- Proven ability to drive architecture, design, and cross-functional collaboration
- Familiarity with modern development practices (Agile, CI/CD, testing)
Qualifications
- Preferred: Experience in advanced manufacturing, 3D printing, CAD/CAM, or simulation
- Preferred: Exposure to controls systems, machine interfaces, or industrial environments
- Preferred: Strong foundation in algorithms or computational problem-solving
- Preferred: Experience working closely with product, UX, or research teams

- Hiring salary range: $130,000 - 200,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
