Senior Software Engineering Manager (Onsite)

About the role

Collins Aerospace, a Raytheon Technologies company, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to lead a team in designing, developing, and documenting software engineering plans for large complex systems. The role involves attracting, engaging, and retaining a team of software engineers, managing their performance, and coordinating across engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of software engineers through design, development, and documentation of software engineering plans for large complex systems.
• Engage and retain a team of software engineers (10 – 15) to build critical software applications for a NO FAIL mission.
• Make hiring decisions, perform performance assessments, and manage personnel for a team of technical staff members.
• Coordinate across engineering teams in the integration of large complex systems, utilizing automation and simulation tools.
• Plan project-level work and meet schedule, cost, and performance goals.
• Manage program technical risks by evaluating requirements and design aspects.
• Interact with a cross-functional team including Engineers, Engineering leaders, Program Managers, Business Developers, Finance, Quality, and Production.
• Serve as a liaison between functional discipline groups and internal and external customers.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and mentoring a team of Software Engineers.
• Effective communication skills with all levels of management, program team members, and external stakeholders.
• Experience leading engineers through software development of applications.
• Project Management, Control Account Management (CAM), and earned value experience.
• Active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
• Typical requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
• Working knowledge of bidding and project/task estimation tools (e.g. SEER-SEM products).
• Experience with processes such as peer review, configuration, and change management.
• Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Experience with flight deck, flight management system, or avionics software development.
• Experience with model-based systems engineering and modeling practices.
• Experience with Agile methodologies.
