Software Engineer Principal (Secret Clearance Required)

About the role

As a Software Developer Principal, you will lead the design and development of complex software systems and make significant enhancements to existing software. This role involves hands-on development, leadership of software development activities, and oversight of systems that process data and messaging, hardware implementation, documentation, and operations and maintenance actions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of scalable software platforms.
  • Enhance existing software systems with robust, scalable solutions for critical communication systems.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to junior employees.
  • Implement and design system-level test plans.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and guides.
  • Organize and manage operations and maintenance actions.
  • Travel quarterly to CONUS sites (2–4 days per trip) for software and occasional hardware updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience).
  • 5 to 15 years of related software engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience programming with C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience with Linux operating system details and shell scripting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows environments.
  • Experience with Java, JavaScript, or other scripting languages.
  • Strong analytical mindset and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Security+ certification or ability to acquire it.
  • Active/current Secret clearance, with willingness to upgrade to TS/SCI with Polygraph (GCI will sponsor).
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science.
  • Background and experience with FPGA programming.
  • Knowledge or experience in Digital Signal Processing.
  • Experience with version control software (e.g., SVN, Git).
  • Experience with issue tracking software (e.g., JIRA, Redmine, Trello).
  • Knowledge of wireless technology, digital/analog communications, or RF.
  • Experience with test automation and continuous integration.

Schedule

  • Quarterly travel required (4+ trips per year, 2–4 days per trip) to CONUS sites for system maintenance.
