Principal Software Engineer – (Secret Clearance Preferred – On-site Required)
GDIT is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join a longstanding, stable program. This role involves development and operation of a high-performance big data system using defined Agile software principles and practices. US Citizenship is required; an active Secret clearance is preferred. If not currently held, GDIT will sponsor the clearance upon contingent offer. The work must be performed onsite in Oakton, VA.
About the role
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will perform software requirements analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance of an operational big data system. The role focuses on software and application development to deliver solutions to complex problems, tailoring cutting-edge solutions to client requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain software for a high-performance big data system
- Perform software requirements analysis, design, development, and testing
- Apply modern C++ (versions 11/14/17/20) in a Linux development environment
- Implement parallel and multi-threaded programming and multi-process applications
- Work with very large databases, big data, and enterprise data warehouses
- Utilize scripting languages including Bash, Ruby, and Python
- Collaborate with project teams, managers, and end users
Requirements
- Minimum of 8+ years of related software engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or related technical field, or 12 years of equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated understanding of software engineering concepts, principles, and applications
- In-depth knowledge of object-oriented and functional programming, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms
- Experience with database technologies, SQL, ETL, indexing, and performance optimization
- Proven experience with modern C++ (C++11/14/17/20) in a Linux environment
- Experience with parallel and multi-threaded programming
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Ruby, and Python
- US Citizenship (required for security clearance)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Azure Cloud development
- Knowledge of memory architectures (NUMA) and caching techniques
- Experience with performance optimization techniques such as profiling and parallelization
- Familiarity with data modeling and NoSQL database technologies (e.g., MongoDB)

Pay
The likely salary range for this position is $136,000 - $184,000, depending on experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements.
