Software Engineer - Network HW Enablement & Cloud Infrastructure

About the role

Join the team that makes sure Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and OpenShift work seamlessly with the latest networking hardware (SmartNICs and DPUs). You will act as the bridge between physical hardware and cloud software, ensuring the foundation they sit on is rock solid.

What your day-to-day looks like

• Write & Implement Code: Spend most of your time writing C, Python, or Go to integrate new hardware features into core platforms.
• Troubleshoot & Debug: Dig into drivers and the Linux kernel to identify and fix hardware-OS communication issues.
• Smart Automation: Identify repetitive manual tasks (testing, deployment) and write scripts to automate them.
• Collaborate & Ship: Work alongside senior engineers to turn requirements into functional, enterprise-grade code.
• Innovate with AI: Proactively research and integrate emerging AI technologies into the software development lifecycle to optimize workflows, tooling, and efficiency.

What you will bring to the table

• Solid Linux Skills: Strong command of the Linux terminal and a good grasp of how the kernel handles networking and drivers.
• Networking Experience: Some experience with networking concepts.
• Polyglot Coding: Comfortable writing C for low-level work and either Python or Go for tooling and automation.
• A "Testing" Mindset: Write code meant to last, with understanding that code isn't done until tested and integrated into a CI/CD pipeline.
• Problem-Solving Curiosity: Enjoy the puzzle of hardware/software interactions and working with complex codebases.

Bonus skills (nice to have)

• Container Exposure: Used Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift and understand how they interact with the underlying OS.
• DevOps Basics: Worked with Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Ansible to automate workflows.
• Open Source Mindset: Comfortable navigating GitHub, reading others' code, and contributing to upstream projects (e.g., OPI Project).

Pay

The salary range for this position is $96,440.00 - $154,190.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications. Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat's compensation package; this position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity.
