Software Engineer, Mapping
About the role
The Aurora Driver is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Mapping team. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining the scalable backend infrastructure and data processing pipeline for storing and serving map data.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain the scalable backend infrastructure and data processing pipeline for storing and serving map data.
- Partner closely with internal and external customers to influence existing and future designs and features.
- Establish and maintain robust testing and performance optimization practices to ensure the stability and scalability of the Atlas system.
Requirements
- 4+ years experience building server side and data processing systems.
- Expert proficiency in C++ with a commitment to writing clean, testable, and production-ready code.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems principles, with a proven ability to deliver scalable, reliable backend systems.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native technologies (e.g., AWS, GCP, Kubernetes).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to rapidly learn new technologies and adapt to evolving requirements.
Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Domain experience with geospatial data, mapping systems, or high-throughput data pipelines.
- Working proficiency in Python and Golang.
Skills
- Experience with C++.
- Understanding of distributed systems.

Benefits
Aurora offers a competitive compensation package including a base salary range of $162,000 - $260,000, an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
Pay
The base salary range for this position is $162,000 - $260,000. Aurora's pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions.
Schedule
Senior employees at Aurora work in a hybrid environment, spending at least 3 days per week in the office.
