About the role

Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Software Engineer – Level 2 or Level 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, AL. As a software developer on the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Fire Control (GFC) Battle Manager software team, you will be part of the team that writes the software (currently ~1.5million lines of code) that controls the missile defense system that protects the US. You will work in a collaborative environment to understand, implement, and test existing and new capabilities.

Essential Functions

  • Software development
  • Support reviews of requirements and test cases developed in support of the GFC software team
  • Work on challenging and diverse assignments in collaborative settings across all levels

Basic Qualifications

Software Engineer – Level 2: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 0-2 years of related experience.

Principal Software Engineer – Level 3: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related work experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related work experience, or 1 year of related work experience with a PhD in STEM.

  • Recent experience developing software in C++ or Java or Ada
  • Willingness to become proficient with Ada software development
  • Quick to learn and able to absorb new concepts and information
  • Recent Python Experience
  • Linux Operating System Experience
  • Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start

Preferred Qualifications

  • Highly experienced with Linux, scripting, and operations
  • Experience with the MDA GMD program
  • Experience with Agile Project Management tools (Jira/Confluence) and DevSecOps tools and methods (Jenkins, Ansible, Git/Gitlab) of continuous integration/continuous delivery and deployment (CI/CD) automation

Pay

Primary Level Salary Range: $87,600.00 - $131,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00

Schedule

Travel: Yes, 10% of the Time

Relocation assistance: Not available

Clearance required for start: Yes – Secret
