Software Engineer Intern (Data Arch - E-commerce) - 2027 Summer

About the role

Global E-commerce is a new and fast-growing business that connects customers to excellent sellers and quality products on TikTok Shop through E-commerce live-streaming, short videos, and commodity recommendation. Our E-commerce Recommendation Infra team builds and optimizes the infrastructure for these recommendation systems to provide the best user experience. We collaborate closely with applied machine learning engineers to create scalable systems supporting innovative algorithms and large-scale models.

This internship offers hands-on experience, industry exposure, and opportunities to apply knowledge to real-world challenges while building a foundation for personal and professional growth. Interns will gain practical experience, explore career paths, and participate in social events, learning programs, and development workshops alongside industry professionals.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain high-performance online services for TikTok’s recommendation system.
• Develop efficient and reliable data pipelines for candidate generation, profile generation, training examples, real-time online training, and more.
• Work with a mentor to build a globalized large-scale recommendation system.
• Design and develop high-performance computing frameworks and storage systems.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must commit to a 12-week full-time internship during Summer 2027.
• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in programming, including but not limited to C, C++, Java, or Golang.
• Effective communication skills and a sense of ownership.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated software engineering experience from internships, work experience, coding competitions, or publications.
• Experience in one of the following areas: personalized recommendations, search engines, machine learning, distributed storage systems, or big data frameworks.

Pay

The hourly rate for this internship position is $42.75.
