Data Engineer Intern (E-commerce) - 2027 Summer
About the role
As a data engineer in the Data Platform E-Commerce team, you will build, optimize, and grow one of the largest data platforms in the world. Your work will directly impact the company's core products and hundreds of millions of users. We are exploring the integration of traditional search engine technologies with Large Language Models (LLMs) to enhance the TikTok Search experience and pioneer new search paradigms. This internship offers hands-on experience at the intersection of information retrieval, machine learning, natural language understanding, recommendation systems, and large-scale distributed systems.
Our internship program provides students with industry exposure, real-world challenges, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Interns will participate in social events, learning programs, and development workshops alongside industry professionals.
Responsibilities
- Design and build efficient, reliable data transformations for reporting, growth analysis, and multi-dimensional analysis.
- Design and implement scalable, robust, and extensible big data systems that support core products and business needs.
- Establish solid design and best engineering practices for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Able to commit to a 12-week internship during Summer 2026.
- Experience with Big Data technologies (Hadoop, M/R, Hive, Spark, Metastore, Presto, Flume, Kafka, ClickHouse, Flink, etc.).
- Experience with data analysis, data ingestion, and data integration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with ETL (Extraction, Transformation & Loading) and architecting data systems.
- Experience with schema design, data modeling, and SQL queries.
- Passionate and self-motivated about Big Data technologies.

Pay
The hourly rate range for this position is $45–$60.
