Engineering$122k–$158k/yrFull-time

About the role

The Infrastructure team at Mercury is an enablement lever for the rest of the business, building scalable, secure, and maintainable foundations for the organization. We focus on creating platform features that make it easier for both agents and humans to deploy code—secure by default, observable by default, and easy to use—while maintaining speed and shipping to production daily.

We maintain everything from networking to container orchestration and collaborate with product teams to enable their AWS needs. This role is ideal for someone passionate about building maintainable systems, obsessed with quality, and eager to dive into problems alongside product counterparts. You’ll go deep, ship often, and leave systems better than you found them—prioritizing quality without bureaucracy.

Responsibilities

  • Build Mercury’s “Infrastructure Platform” to support the growing needs of the engineering organization, ensuring it is AI-friendly while remaining usable for human engineers.
  • Deliver key infrastructure projects, break down complex initiatives, and define infrastructure strategy through detailed RFCs and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with product teams to enable AWS needs and improve platform usability for both humans and AI agents.
  • Debug low-level Linux issues and help product engineers understand production behavior.
  • Contribute to agentic infrastructure: systems that allow AI agents to safely interact with infrastructure while providing guardrails for both agents and human operators.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience with AWS.
  • Strong knowledge of low-level operating system foundations (Linux, file systems, containers, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability in technical writing, with 2+ years of experience creating detailed technical documentation, RFCs, and tech specs.
  • Keen interest in cloud-native open-source technologies and comfort contributing code upstream.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating in regulated environments (e.g., HITRUST or SOC2).
  • 2+ years of experience working in large Terraform environments with many contributors.
  • 2+ years of experience writing code—we’re building an Infrastructure Platform from scratch, and there’s plenty of code to write.
  • Willingness to learn and dive into hard problems.

Skills

  • AWS (EC2, RDS, OpenSearch, ECS, EKS).
  • Terraform for infrastructure-as-code.
  • GitHub and GitHub Actions for version control and delivery.
  • Observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch, OpenTelemetry.
  • Cloud-native open-source tooling.

Pay

Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are:

  • US employees (any location): $122,400—$158,400 USD
  • Canadian employees (any location): $115,700—$149,700 CAD
