Engineering$122k–$158k/yrFull-time

About the role

The Infrastructure team at Mercury is an enablement lever for the rest of the business, building scalable, secure, and maintainable foundations for the organization. We focus on creating platform features that make it easier for both agents and humans to deploy code—ensuring security and observability by default while maintaining speed. This role involves building out Mercury’s “Infrastructure Platform” further, supporting the growing needs of the engineering organization, and making the platform AI-friendly while remaining usable for engineers.

The Infrastructure team maintains everything from networking to container orchestration and collaborates with product teams to enable AWS needs. We’re looking for someone passionate about building maintainable systems, obsessed with quality, and eager to dive into problems with product counterparts. This is a role for someone who enjoys going deep, shipping often, and improving systems continuously—without turning quality into bureaucracy.

Responsibilities

  • Build Mercury’s “Infrastructure Platform” to support the growing needs of the engineering organization, ensuring it is AI-friendly and usable for both humans and agents.
  • Deliver key infrastructure projects, break down complex initiatives, and define infrastructure strategy through detailed RFCs and technical specifications.
  • Maintain and improve systems spanning networking, container orchestration, and AWS services.
  • Collaborate with product teams to enable AWS needs and debug production issues.
  • Contribute to open-source cloud-native technologies and upstream code.
  • Operate in regulated environments (e.g., HITRUST, SOC2) while ensuring compliance and security.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience with AWS.
  • Strong knowledge of low-level operating system foundations (Linux, file systems, containers, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability in technical writing, with 2+ years of experience creating detailed technical documentation, RFCs, and tech specs.
  • Keen interest in cloud-native open-source technologies and comfort contributing code upstream.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working in large Terraform environments with many contributors.
  • 2+ years of experience writing code to support infrastructure platform development.
  • Experience operating in regulated environments (e.g., HITRUST, SOC2).
  • Willingness to learn and tackle hard problems.

Skills

  • AWS (EC2, RDS, OpenSearch, ECS, EKS).
  • Terraform for infrastructure-as-code.
  • GitHub and GitHub Actions for version control and delivery.
  • Observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch, OpenTelemetry).
  • Linux, file systems, and container technologies.
  • Technical writing and RFC development.

Technology you’ll work with

Our infrastructure is built primarily on AWS, including systems like EC2, RDS, OpenSearch, ECS, and EKS. We use Terraform for infrastructure-as-code, GitHub and GitHub Actions for version control and delivery, and tools like Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch, and OpenTelemetry for observability. We’re also building agentic infrastructure—systems that allow AI agents to safely interact with our infrastructure while providing guardrails for both agents and human operators.
