Software Engineer II

About the role

Join Akamai's prestigious Mapping Engineering team, where we build the core traffic-steering systems behind Akamai's Intelligent Platform. Our software measures and models the global Internet, then directs traffic across Akamai's worldwide network of servers. These systems help customers deliver digital experiences with industry-leading performance, reliability, and scale.

Responsibilities

• Analyzing, designing, and implementing systems software that brings new functionality and increased accuracy, reliability and performance to our mapping system
• Evolving complex algorithms to best respond to unpredictable traffic patterns on the global Internet
• Improving the scalability, robustness, and ease of use of our software systems for testing, deployment, monitoring and maintenance
• Becoming a subject matter expert for our systems, explaining and improving our software, and assisting with troubleshooting
• Making measurements, assessments, and tuning the effects of our global control systems

Requirements

• 2 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent experience
• Demonstrate solid experience working in C/C++ or another object-oriented language
• Experience developing, analyzing or improving algorithms
• Comfortable solving complex technical problems collaboratively
• Curious, adaptable, and eager to learn new technologies
• Familiarity with the Linux operating system and scripting languages (e.g. Python, shell, perl)

• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols

Skills

• Proficiency in C/C++ or another object-oriented language
• Experience with Linux and scripting languages
• Understanding of algorithm design and analysis
• Experience with software development methodologies

Pay

For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $95,000 - $171,000/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
