Position Summary
The Software Engineer is responsible for developing, integrating, and sustaining software components that support a complex defense weapon system across prototype development, test support, and production readiness. This role focuses on reliable, secure, and maintainable software that supports system functionality, interfaces, and Government requirements. The Software Engineer works closely with systems, electrical, and mechanical engineers to ensure software aligns with system architecture, configuration baselines, and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance with ITAR, DFAR, and any other relevant regulations and policies.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software components supporting weapon system functionality and interfaces.
- Support integration of software with electrical and mechanical subsystems.
- Develop and maintain software requirements, design documentation, and verification artifacts.
- Support configuration management and software change control processes.
- Participate in system engineering reviews including SRR, PDR, CDR, and test readiness reviews.
- Support Government-led test and evaluation activities, including test preparation and issue resolution.
- Perform software debugging, root cause analysis, and corrective actions during integration and testing.
- Ensure compliance with Government requirements, cybersecurity standards, and applicable MIL-STDs.
- Support software transition from prototype to production environments.
- Career with subcontractors and suppliers providing software-enabled components.
- Other project and work as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must be ITAR Authorized US Persons.
- Must be lawfully permitted and comfortable working in facilities that handle firearms and munitions.
- Must be willing to travel on average 25-30%, both internationally and domestically, travel may vary based on business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience developing software for defense, aerospace, or safety-critical systems.
- Experience with embedded software development or system-level software integration.
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems, communications protocols, or hardware-software interfaces.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and configuration management.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used in embedded or system software environments.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting weapon systems, fire control, or safety-critical applications.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity requirements (e.g., RMF, secure coding practices).
- Experience supporting Government test programs and technical reviews.
- Experience transitioning software from prototype to production.
- Active or eligible U.S. security clearance.
Work Environment
This role supports a hands-on engineering program and requires collaboration across multiple disciplines and facilities. Occasional travel to manufacturing sites and Government test locations may be required.
