Software Development Manager, Programming Foundations, ASBX
About the role
ASBX is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the team, product, and engineering strategy for AI-driven testing capabilities at Amazon. These systems decide what to test, write the tests, explain failures, and close the loop fast enough for agents to self-correct without human intervention. You will define the strategy for how AI-powered testing evolves from early adoption (10K+ monthly active users) into the default way every team at Amazon validates software in the AI Development Life Cycle. You will own the product vision, roadmap, team, and results, force-multiplying an already shipping team by sharpening strategy, raising ambition, and delivering at a pace matching the problem's speed.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the product strategy for AI-driven testing at Amazon: what to build, in what sequence, and why that sequence wins. Your strategy must be defensible to senior leadership and ambitious enough to match the rate at which agents are changing software development.
- Hire, grow, and lead a large engineering team through rapid expansion and increasing scope.
- Partner with SDE, PE, and PM colleagues to translate product direction into technical architecture, holding both accountable to coherence.
- Meet with customers across Amazon to understand their testing pain points and what would make them trust AI-generated test evidence enough to ship on it.
- Drive delivery execution at a pace matching the domain; capabilities shipped six months late may miss the market.
- Own the product vision for your area, partnering with a product manager but making the hard prioritization calls yourself.
- Shape the direction of TestSpaces, ensuring the execution and testing-judgment layers evolve as a coherent system.
- Communicate strategy, progress, and risk to senior leadership clearly and without hedging.
A day in the life
You lead the team building AI testing capabilities used daily by tens of thousands of Amazon engineers, pushing these tools from individual utilities into a coherent testing system across the development lifecycle. On a given day, you might: work with a PE on tech strategy; review architecture and designs with engineers; meet with Amazon teams as your customers; review Go-To-Market progress with your PM; or present your roadmap to ASBX leadership, defending sequencing choices.
About the team
Programming Foundations exists to make testing in the AI Development Life Cycle a solved problem. The Testing org executes millions of tests daily across every AWS region, with AI systems making these platforms smarter—generating tests, diagnosing failures, measuring sufficiency, and helping builders ship confidently. The Pipeline Test Fixer alone surpasses 50,000 daily invocations, reducing median promotion-blocking time by 25%. TestSpaces is validated at scale, with a sibling organization running 2 million AI-native end-to-end tests monthly across 500+ production pipelines. You will decide which capabilities become products and which get cut.
