About the role
The Software Development Manager (SDM) for Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX) leads the Code Services team. This team owns all source control at Amazon, including GitFarm, GitHub, and GitLab, which serve the entire Amazon builder ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Drive technical strategy, design, development, and operations for Amazon's source control platforms.
- Hire, retain, and grow top engineering talent; build a high-performing team capable of operating critical infrastructure at Amazon scale while shipping innovative new capabilities.
- Own the product roadmap for your area, working with senior leadership to define strategy that balances platform reliability, scalability, and the evolving needs of AI-native development.
- Architect solutions that scale with Amazon's growth, managing millions of repositories, hundreds of thousands of developers, and an expanding population of AI agents and automated systems interacting with source control.
- Drive AI-native operations and tooling, from AI-assisted incident resolution to enabling agentic workflows that depend on programmatic source control access.
- Obsess over the developer experience for Amazon's diverse builder community, from principal engineers managing monorepos to product managers shipping their first automation.
- Collaborate across ASBX and partner teams to deliver a unified, secure, and seamless source control experience across all platforms.
- Operate critical developer infrastructure with the highest bar for availability, security, and performance.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Knowledge of mobile application development experience both iOS and Android
Basic Qualifications
