Software Development Engineer, Network Monitoring & Alerts
About the team
ByteDance Networking brings together innovative ideas and technologies from network architecture, software defined networking (SDN), network virtualization, switch software and hardware co-design, and high-speed networking, to create hyper-scale data-center networking solutions that power several of the world's most popular apps, such as Douyin and TikTok, serving hundreds of millions of users globally. The team is responsible for designing, building, and operating the global, intelligent network infrastructure to meet requirements for high availability, scalability, and high performance. Joining this team offers marketable software development and network operation experience in data center networking at massive scale.
Responsibilities
- Develop and improve data center network monitoring services, and optimize network data collection, processing, and visualization tools.
- Create network alert systems using trained learning algorithms to provide real-time and accurate anomaly detection and fault location.
- Collaborate with network engineers to develop automated network fault diagnosis systems and provide troubleshooting analysis services for the business.
- Develop a network data platform based on network metadata, providing metrics that accurately reflect the status and trends of the network in real-time.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is preferred; Master’s or Ph.D. with networking research experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, C++, or Python, and the ability to read and understand others.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in network monitoring and alarm systems, with an in-depth understanding of networking protocols and the TCP/IP stack.
Preferred Qualifications
- Practical or research experience in network monitoring and alert systems, with a strong foundation in developing big data processing.
- Familiarity with switch monitoring technologies such as Telemetry, SNMP, Syslog, sFlow, Erspan, or INT is a plus.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $202,160 – $368,220 annually. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, experience, and location. Base pay is part of a total package that may include discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 401(k) savings plan with company match; paid parental leave; short-term and long-term disability coverage; life insurance; wellbeing benefits; 10 paid holidays per year; 10 paid sick days per year; and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
