About the role

The Software Development Engineer – AI is a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, building, and deploying AI and machine learning-powered digital experiences across Caremark's platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Leverages expertise to design and implement efficient, scalable AI/ML solutions that meet business requirements and quality standards.
  • Contributes to solution design and architecture discussions for AI/ML systems, collaborating with architects and senior engineers.
  • Provides input on technical feasibility, model performance, and scalability considerations to ensure the overall solution meets the desired objectives.
  • Participates in code reviews and ensures adherence to coding standards, best practices, and quality guidelines.
  • Communicates and coordinates with team members to ensure alignment, provide technical insights, and contribute to decision-making processes.
  • Contributes to the adoption of best practices, new AI/ML technologies, and tools, including generative AI and agentic frameworks, to enhance productivity, efficiency, and code quality.
  • Participates in knowledge sharing activities, such as code reviews, tech talks, and workshops, to foster a culture of learning and collaboration within the team.
  • Works with other developers and team members to implement complex AI-powered features, enhance existing functionality, and ensure the delivery of high-quality code.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to junior developers, helping them improve their technical skills and grow professionally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on software engineering experience, including building and deploying machine learning models.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and experience with an ML framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn).
  • Working knowledge of generative AI and large language models (LLMs), including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and vector databases/embeddings.
  • Experience with agentic AI frameworks and conversational AI/NLP systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS) and MLOps/CI-CD pipelines for model deployment and monitoring.
  • Experience with REST and/or GraphQL API development.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals—data structures, algorithms, design patterns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred/specialized training/relevant professional qualification.

Pay

The typical pay range for this role is $72,100.00 - $144,200.00. This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
