Software Development Engineer
About the role
The AWS Networking organization is hiring Software Development Engineers (SDE) to join the Backbone Engineering team. You will design and architect software that provides Network Engineers with critical information about AWS Backbone network performance. This team builds solutions to increase the scale, efficiency, and resiliency of the AWS Backbone, automating capacity allocation for AWS services workloads and ensuring high availability and scalability.
Engineers collaborate across teams, make impactful decisions, and work in a startup-like agile environment. The role involves designing, implementing, testing, deploying, and maintaining innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.
Responsibilities
- Build software and deploy products enabling the AWS Backbone to function as an efficient service for customers.
- Develop solutions allowing customers to visualize AWS Backbone network performance, identify availability risks, and plan protective actions.
- Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain high-quality distributed system software.
- Write software for large-scale, multi-tiered, or distributed systems using languages like C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
- Take ownership of projects and collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
- Learn from peers and mentor team members to foster growth.
Requirements
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of experience in design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
- 1+ years of experience designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software applications, tools, systems, or services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
- 1+ years of Object-Oriented Design experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Experience with AWS technologies such as DynamoDB, SWF, S3, EC2, API Gateway, Lambda, ELB, RDS, and Athena.

Pay
Base salary range: $143,700 – $194,400 USD annually (locations: Minneapolis, MN; Seattle, WA).
