Software Developer II - Conversational Search

About the role

The Conversational Search team at Redfin is building the next generation of AI-powered home search experience. This initiative aims to redefine how millions of users discover homes through a fast, intuitive, and helpful search interface. As part of this team, you'll work on the intersection of AI, product design, and large-scale distributed systems to create a fundamentally better way for people to search for homes.

Responsibilities

• Develop responsive, resilient, scalable, and high-quality conversational experiences using React, Java, AWS, Sierra AI, and other tools/libraries.
• Balance the trade-offs between complex infrastructure investments and quick, pragmatic solutions to meet specific business needs.
• Collaborate with other engineering and product stakeholders to define, design, and lead the development of significant multi-person projects.
• Stay up to date with the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem and help evaluate new tools, models, and frameworks.
• Mentor and guide other junior engineers.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional full stack software development experience specifically in React and Java.
• Excited about LLMs, agent development, conversational UX, and emerging AI technologies.
• Experience with modern frontend technologies (React, TypeScript).
• Proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining scalable, high-performance web applications.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment, handle ambiguity, and empathize with customers.

Qualifications

• Eager to help define the future of search at Redfin.
• Experience with Java, JavaScript, and SQL.
• Knowledge of JPA/Hibernate, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with AWS services like S3, RDS, and Lambda.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and continuous integration practices.

Skills

• Proficiency in React and TypeScript.
• Experience with AWS, Redis, Kafka, and GraphQL.
• Knowledge of CSS, HTML, and CSS-in-JS.
• Experience with Elasticsearch or similar search engines.
• Experience with machine learning and natural language processing.

Pay

$139,100.00 - $170,100.00 annually.

Schedule

Flexible schedule with occasional on-call responsibilities.

On-Call Expectations

This role may include participation in an on-call rotation to support production systems and ensure service reliability. On-call responsibilities may include coverage during nights and weekends. Frequency and scheduling will be determined by team needs and communicated accordingly.
