About the role

AMEWAS is seeking a Software Developer (DAPS)-Junior to support Advanced Aircraft Research, Development, Test & Evaluation. The position is not eligible for remote work and requires on-site support at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland.

Responsibilities

  • Designs a Windows application that will serve as the new DAPS software
  • Utilizes an Agile implementation process
  • Employs Agile methods using fixed-length Sprints encompassing requirements, design, development, testing and deployment
  • Delivers a finished and tested product at the end of each Sprint
  • Utilizes Agile methods such as SCRUM or DoD Agile standard
  • Develops, designs, documents and delivers a high-level design of the overall system architecture for a new Data Acquisition and Processing System (DAPS)
  • Conducts a preliminary design review and systems requirements review of high-level designs
  • Creates System Architecture documentation
  • Works with a team to develop all other documentation for this project
  • Supports the software development team in creating DAPS software that will:
    • Communicate/Import the legacy DAPS Microsoft Access Structured Query Language (SQL) relational database
    • Interact/Interface with the existing EG&G ODS-1500 and ODS-2200 Optical Data Link transceivers used at NAWCAD EMP facility
    • Interface for recording, playback, presentation, and post execution analysis
    • Incorporate a new graphic user interface (GUI) to control software functions
    • Communicate with Windows based systems that include oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and computers
    • Conform with approved design
    • Uses Python, Django, VS Code, Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, GitLab, MySQL or other IDEs/DBs

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering: Degrees in Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace, Computer, Software Systems, Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering may qualify
  • 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Experience with scripting, database and programming in Python
  • Strong understanding of standard programming algorithms, design patterns and object-oriented software design
  • The ability to collaborate with customers (including engineers and technicians) to design, develop and deploy solutions

Qualifications

  • Minimum clearance required to apply (candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered): N/A
  • Additional Accesses: The ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position, as required by the contract

Skills

  • Experience with Django
  • Experience with C++, Java and HTML
  • Experience using oscilloscopes and other RF measurement equipment
  • Experience developing software to collect data from measurement equipment
