About the role

The Programming Foundations Team within Amazon Builder Experience is seeking a Software Development Engineer to join the Language Experience team in Builder Tools. This team is the center of excellence for Amazon's use of programming languages, shared software, and application build tools. Their tools are used across the entire company, and their care and evolution are crucial to the effectiveness of Amazon.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build developer tools that Amazon engineers use every day.
  • Work with the languages and libraries that power Amazon's services, making them easier to use and more reliable.
  • Help maintain our build tools, compilers, and package managers.
  • Work on our 3PSW repository mirrors.
  • Collaborate with engineers across Amazon to understand their pain points and build tools that address them.
  • Write code, review code from teammates, and help others debug issues with our tools.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
