Software/Data Rotational Program
About the role
Slate is a battery electric vehicle manufacturer committed to reindustrialization in the USA. The company values customization and DIY spirit in its vehicles. The Slate Rotational Program – Engineering (SRP-E) is designed to develop early-career engineers into automotive innovators through professional engineering experiences.
Who we are looking for
Slate is seeking a motivated engineer for its SRP-E program. Participants will rotate through various engineering roles focusing on electrical systems, embedded software, and vehicle communication networks, gaining comprehensive experience over 18-24 months. A Senior Engineering Leader will mentor each participant.
What you get to do
- Perform engineering analysis, design evaluation, and technical problem-solving with a focus on electrical systems, embedded software, and vehicle communication networks (CAN/LIN/Ethernet).
- Apply engineering judgment to evaluate technical challenges related to ECU communication, diagnostics implementation (UDS), and software feature execution, recommending robust and scalable solutions.
- Lead and support hands-on engineering assignments involving vehicle diagnostics, CAN communication analysis, software validation, and system integration testing (e.g., CANoe/CANalyzer usage, DTC validation, signal integrity, ECU interaction).
- Develop and execute validation strategies for vehicle software features, ensuring correct behavior across ECUs and compliance with system requirements.
- Support development and integration of vehicle electrical architecture, including network topology, gateway communication, and diagnostic access strategies.
- Complete and present technical reports at the end of each rotation to senior Slate leadership, highlighting engineering outcomes, validation results, and opportunities for system or process improvement.
- Utilize advanced engineering tools, lab equipment, and vehicle prototypes to support software validation, diagnostics verification, and communication analysis.
- Engage in structured rotational assignments across systems engineering, software integration, manufacturing engineering, quality, and program management to build a comprehensive understanding of vehicle development.
- Participate in a capstone innovation project focused on advancing vehicle software, diagnostics, or electrical architecture, culminating in a technical presentation to senior leadership.
- Be an integral part of an energetic engineering team challenging the status quo of vehicle software and electrical system design.
- Upon graduating from the program, the engineer will transition into a full-time role within electrical, software, or systems engineering.
What you bring to the team
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer science from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent education demonstrating advanced engineering knowledge.
- Prior engineering internship or co-op experience within automotive or related technical environments preferred.
- Undeniable passion in automotive engineering and emerging vehicle technologies.
- Demonstrated initiative in advancing technical and leadership capabilities within engineering environments.
- Proven communication skills and experience contributing to technical projects or cross-functional initiatives.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment.
