Socioecology Research and Engagement Fellowship

About the role

The Socioecology Research and Engagement Fellow will conduct mixed-methods research on place-based environmental education and socioecological systems by supporting the implementation and evaluation of educational and community science programs.

• Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data
• Auxiliary in the analysis of evaluation instruments
• Prepare reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and presentations that communicate research findings to scientific and practitioner audiences

Responsibilities

• Instruct marine science and coastal ecology for students grade PK-12 in discussion, lab, field and outreach programs
• Assist in leading the GeoStewards Institute, an immersive summer research experience that equips high school student participants with GIS and spatial analysis skills to investigate local environmental issues
• Support and assist in leading the GeoStewards Institute, an immersive summer research experience that equips high school student participants with GIS and spatial analysis skills to investigate local environmental issues
• Auxiliary in coastal research, community science monitoring projects and volunteer programs
• Provide office/clerical assistance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Bachelor's degree in a coastal related discipline (education, environmental science, marine science, or other natural, physical, or social sciences)
• Completion of marine or environmental science courses (i.e., biology, marine biology, marine science, ecology, invertebrate zoology and ichthyology)
• Experience teaching or working with children or students
• Experience conducting environmental or sociological research
• Experience with conducting analysis in statistical software (R-Studio or SPSS)
• Experience using ArcGIS software
• CITI certification and experience with IRB approved research
• Fluency in English – bilingual applicants (English/Spanish) are encouraged to apply
