About the Role
The Psychiatric Social Worker serves as a primary therapist in both inpatient and ambulatory care settings within the Department of Psychiatry. This role involves working with an assigned caseload of patients, providing individual, group, and family therapy, as well as conducting casework services on inpatient units.
Responsibilities
- Provides initial psychosocial history as part of the diagnostic assessment for patients as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Participates in the formulation of the Clinical Summary and comprehensive treatment plan for assigned patients.
- Delivers individualized treatment services, including case management, patient education, individual and group therapy, and family support and counseling.
- Conducts group therapy sessions for patients as assigned by the treatment team.
- Provides family support and education, as permitted by the patient.
- Documents services in the medical record in a timely manner.
- Participates in treatment team discussions to coordinate patient care and improve therapeutic services.
- May have unsupervised contact with patients in the course of performing duties.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited school.
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in outpatient or inpatient social work.
- New York State Social Worker License (LMSW/LCSW) required.
- BCLS Certification required.
Skills
- Proficiency with PCs, desktops, and laptops, including Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Bilingual preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, talking, sitting, hearing, and bending throughout the workday.
