Responsibilities
- Provide social work services including assessment, counseling, consultation, planning, community organization, policy, administration, research, and client-centered advocacy.
- Deliver clinical social work services under the supervision of a LCSW, including clinical assessment, consultation, psychotherapeutic counseling, and client-centered advocacy.
- Supervise students completing undergraduate or graduate social work coursework in accordance with Council on Social Work Education standards.
- Provide individual and group counseling around emotional and mental health issues.
- Build and maintain strong rapport with clients in both group and individual settings.
- Conduct accurate clinical assessments of clients, including mental and emotional health, stability, and generalized physical assessments for clients dealing with substance abuse.
- Maintain detailed and concise records of each client throughout their treatment.
- Perform professional consultations with medical professionals, therapists, physicians, and court officers as appropriate.
- Follow directions and conduct research within a clinical setting, either under direct supervision or independently.
- Perform screenings, intake assessments, and consultations for evaluation of individual and family dynamics and treatment needs, including admissions and referrals for services.
- Provide ongoing social work intervention and education to patients, families, and significant others for health-related psychosocial problems based on agreed-upon goals.
- Utilize individual, family, group work, and crisis intervention methods to identify and intervene in problems influencing participation in treatment and discharge planning.
- Complete a comprehensive psychosocial history on a timely basis.
- Provide direct treatment services to patients within the hospital using appropriate modalities including individual, family, and group counseling, and crisis intervention with knowledge of patient growth and development appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
- Serve as a resource to the healthcare team regarding chemical dependence, psychiatric and abuse issues; identify, assess, treat, and refer patients facing problems of child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and elder abuse.
- Provide case management services for assigned caseload to ensure treatment plans are followed and to aid patients in obtaining supportive services and resources.
- Interpret the nature of illness and prescribed course of treatment to patients and families; communicate family issues to other staff members.
- Act as a liaison to the healthcare team in understanding family dynamics, facilitating timely and proactive discharges to home or another facility.
- Act as an advocate for the patient with other Medical Center programs and function as a liaison with other providers in the community, assisting in linkages for patients and families.
- Make presentations on issues related to the field and available Medical Center resources as part of community outreach to schools, agencies, and other resources.
- Participate in interdisciplinary diagnostic and treatment planning conferences, including case presentations, and make recommendations regarding patient needs from a social work perspective.
- Fulfill all case recording, statistical reporting, and other documentation requirements accurately and on a timely basis.
- Provide clinical supervision to paraprofessional staff and students as assigned.
- Provide consultative services to the Evergreen Outpatient Program, Medical Center staff, and other community agencies regarding social work issues and services to the patient population.
- Assist in developing discharge care plans, including suggesting appropriate community resources.
- Deliver assessment, treatment, and patient care responsibilities with knowledge of patient growth and development appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
- Demonstrate customer service skills including respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness.
- Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Assess gaps in policies and procedures and create necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps.
- Understand and adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and be familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
- Actively participate in all required department meetings.
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature review, conferences, and workshops.
Education/Licensure
- Master’s in Social Work from an accredited school of social work.
- Must receive NJ license as a LSW or CSW within 1 year of date of hire.
- Maintain current levels of licensing, education, and skills as required for position and discipline.
- Current driver’s license required.
- American Heart Association Heart Saver Certification.
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in psychiatric social work or comparable experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work with behaviorally impaired populations or those with addictions.
- Demonstrated ability to work with psychiatrically impaired populations or those with addictions.
- Understanding of addiction treatments, including pharmacology.
- Proficiency in reporting and record keeping.
- Cultural competence.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Speaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position.
- Bilingual skills are a plus (Spanish, etc.).
Job Setting/Physical Demands
- Program locations; contact with patients, families, and staff.
- Somewhat sedentary, but mobility required.
- Occasionally lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients.
- Occasional heavy physical effort when de-escalating out of control patients.
- Subject to varying and unpredictable situations; handles emergency and crisis situations.

- Base: $37.10 – $60.60 per hour.
- Differentials: Evening 10%, Night 12%, Weekend $2.00 per hour.
