Social Worker (LSW) - Co-Responder Social Service Unit

About the role

This position involves providing community-based crisis intervention, assessment, stabilization, case management, and referrals in collaboration with law enforcement and emergency personnel. The role focuses on connecting individuals to mental health, substance use, and other supportive services, ensuring safe and effective interactions during crises. Field responses across the city include mobile mental health services, with a focus on de-escalation and culturally sensitive care.

Qualifications & Skills

• Licensed Social Worker (LSW) with Illinois licensure
• Bachelor's Degree in Social Work
• Minimum three years of related experience preferred
• Valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, ability to travel in various weather conditions
• Excellent communication, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills
• Ability to work with diverse age groups, maintain confidentiality, and collaborate effectively with law enforcement, medical staff, and community providers
• Knowledge of mental health laws, HIPAA, and healthcare compliance standards

Key Responsibilities

• Utilize motivational interviewing and crisis intervention to ensure safety
• Make clinical judgments for safe, least restrictive crisis resolutions
• Respect cultural values and collaborate with community resources
• Follow up with clients through case management and social work interventions
• Maintain professional boundaries and provide education on mental health and addiction issues
• Participate in clinical supervision, documentation, and compliance activities
