Social Worker

Help families stay together and move forward. As part of Michigan’s MiFamily Together program with Wellspring, you'll work alongside families navigating life's most difficult moments. The program focuses on preserving families, reducing unnecessary out-of-home placements, supporting reunification, and strengthening family well-being through a coordinated, whole-family approach.

About the role

As an MFT Advocate, you will serve as a guide, partner, teacher, coach, and source of support for families facing challenges such as housing instability, mental health concerns, substance use issues, parenting struggles, financial hardship, or child welfare involvement. Your role is to help families identify strengths, build skills, access resources, and move toward their goals through relationship-based work.

The impact of this work extends beyond individual families—when parents gain confidence and families become more stable, communities grow stronger, and the likelihood of abuse and neglect decreases.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with families, helping them identify goals and navigate challenges through a respectful, strength-based approach.
• Strengthen family safety and stability by enhancing protective factors, developing safety plans, building parenting and life skills, and supporting stable environments for children.
• Connect families to resources and opportunities, including community services, healthcare, education, housing, transportation, and public benefits.
• Collaborate with schools, healthcare providers, child welfare professionals, and community agencies to ensure coordinated, long-term support for families.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, or a human services-related field OR an associate’s degree with two years of experience working with families, provided you are actively working toward a bachelor’s degree in a related field and will complete it within six months.
• Experience working with children and families, familiarity with child welfare systems, community resources, and protective factors frameworks.
• Strong belief in the strength and potential of families, even in difficult circumstances.
• Ability to build trust, engage diverse backgrounds, and help families navigate challenges while maintaining dignity and hope.
• Must meet all position requirements, including screenings, a valid driver’s license, car insurance, and the ability to maintain a flexible schedule supporting family needs.
• Preference given to applicants residing within the assigned service area (Shiawassee and Gratiot counties).

Work Environment

• Hybrid role combining remote work (home office or designated workspace) with in-home visits and community outreach.
• Travel throughout Shiawassee and Gratiot counties with mileage reimbursement; may include extended travel for multi-county contracts.
• Work in diverse home and community environments, which may include animals, smoke, strong odors, clutter, and insects.
• Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required to meet family schedules, with supervisor and team support for scheduling.
• Subject to frequent interruptions, schedule changes based on family needs, and driving in all weather conditions.

Pay

$48,000 per year.
