Social Worker II

Brief Description

The Social Worker II provides complex social services, acting as a liaison among individuals, legally authorized representatives, and other parties to ensure ongoing care, treatment, and support using person‑centered practices. Responsibilities include assessing support systems, maintaining social histories, coordinating admissions, transfers, transitions, and discharges, and delivering individual and group training on rights and self‑advocacy. The role operates under moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment and may involve disaster response or continuity of operations duties.

Essential Job Functions

• Interview and converse with individuals, legally authorized representatives, and agencies to assess psychosocial, economic, and physical needs and update support plans.
• Oversee communication and information exchange among individuals, representatives, and treatment providers, ensuring liaison functions are performed and documentation is maintained.
• Provide assistance regarding guardianship, living options, end‑of‑life planning, and rights in accordance with state and federal laws.
• Coordinate and review rights and capacity assessments performed by assigned staff.
• Assign and supervise staff in admissions, transfers, transitions, discharges, and furloughs, ensuring person‑centered access to services.
• Design, schedule, and facilitate individual and group training on voting, citizenship, decision‑making, self‑advocacy, and related rights.
• Participate in residence and family meetings, delivering formal presentations on facility processes.
• Serve on rotating on‑call schedules and may work extended or overtime shifts as needed.
• Participate in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activities, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health, and substance‑use disorders.
• Understanding of human growth and development, behavioral health, and social work case‑management standards.
• Skill in interviewing, assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, mediation, counseling, referral, problem solving, supervision, consultation, and advocacy.
• Ability to perform duties in compliance with Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners Code of Conduct and NASW Code of Ethics.
• Effective written and verbal communication in both individual and group settings.
• Accountability for assigned property with limited financial responsibilities.

Licensure and Certifications

Current licensure with the Texas Board of Social Work Examiners (LBSW or higher) is required and must be maintained.

Screening Criteria

• Six months of experience working directly with individuals with mental, social, or substance‑use disorders, or completion of the State Hospital internship program.
• Successful fingerprint background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, LEIE).
• Male applicants ages 18‑25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
• All applicants must be at least 18 years old; applicants for Waco and Terrell Center for Youth must be 21.

Pay

Salary Range: $4,866.58 – $6,335.66 per month (paid monthly).

Schedule

Day shift; may require rotating schedules, extended shifts, overtime, and on‑call status. Position is not eligible for telework.
