Qualifications
Master of Social Work (MSW) or Mental Health Counselor (MHC) degree, non-licensed at time of hire. License must be acquired within the allowed timeframe under NYS Department of Education requirements.
Experience
Prior successful field work experience under proper supervision.
Responsibilities
- Gathers sufficient information for each client to make a diagnostic assessment necessary to determine assignment priorities and treatment plan or referral to treatment resources in the community.
- Implements appropriate crisis services when needed to prevent decomposition and moves client toward an appropriate treatment plan, enhancing adaptive functioning.
- Shares information about the Agency and its services to help clients and other interested parties participate in treatment decisions, set appropriate goals, and better understand the center’s functions.
- Helps clients become effective consumers of mental health and substance abuse services through information sharing, empowerment, and reducing stigma.
- Maintains client stability through a planned ongoing treatment relationship or assesses and implements changes in client functioning when indicated.
- Regularly assesses with supervisor the progress of the client’s treatment and is open to recommendations for improvement.
- Assists clients in developing appropriate expectations from treatment.
- Helps clients understand and resolve psychological and financial obstacles to payment, ensuring cooperation with fee and insurance responsibilities.
- Strengthens the client’s ability to understand and utilize therapy and find resources after treatment through proper discharge planning and termination.
- Establishes and maintains appropriate and timely clinical case records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and treatment plan reviews, documenting therapeutic intervention for compliance with Agency, funding, licensing, and billing authorities.
- Exchanges information with other agencies to benefit the client or ensure compliance with regulations and coordination of services.
- Participates in all required internal and external meetings that appropriately represent the needs of the client and the Agency.
- Utilizes supervision to increase practice skills, promote better service for the client, and preserve accountability to the Agency.
- Supervises graduate and undergraduate students, when assigned, incorporating the needs of the client, the Agency, the student, and the University.
- Facilitates sharing of data with clients to support partnered decision-making and keep them informed of progress.
- Completes QI Training during onboarding and participates in QI refresher training as needed.
- Cultivates a culture of inclusion that respects individual strengths, views, and experiences to drive better decisions, innovation, and business results.
- Adheres to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
