About the role

The Department of Social Services (DSS) seeks a dynamic leader to manage and supervise several sub-units or the entire Child Protective Services Program. This role involves policy development, program planning, budget preparation, and supervising Child Protective Services Investigative Assessment Supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an agency liaison with designated committees and interagency groups.
  • Act as the information specialist and public relations consultant with local media.
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of individuals and community partners.
  • Manage Child Protective Services Program delivery within DSS.
  • Supervise Social Work Supervisors II and III.
  • Work closely with higher level management and program and administrative staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of social work and three years of social work or counseling experience, two of which were in a supervisory capacity.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and four years of social work or counseling experience, two of which were in a supervisory capacity.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preference given to applicants with comprehensive knowledge of NC Child Welfare policies and best practices.
  • Preference given to applicants with strong understanding of child safety.
  • Preference given to applicants with the ability to analyze complex situations, identify trends, and develop effective solutions.
  • Preference given to applicants with a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in Child Welfare.

Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training.
  • Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems.
  • Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources.
  • Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs.
  • Skills in supervising, training, or orienting lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.
