Services For Adults (SFA) is a part of the Adult Services Division and is responsible for three main program areas: Adult Social Work Services, the Senior Citizens Nutrition Program, and the Mecklenburg Transportation System (MTS).

About the role

This position will provide “as needed PRN” support and coverage to Senior Nutrition meal site managers. This is a great opportunity to see the Senior Nutrition program and understand Senior Nutrition sites and services. Duties will include client registrations, assessments, meal distribution, and facilitating activities for social engagement.

This is a 15-19 hours per week as-needed position, Monday – Friday, to provide coverage at Senior Nutrition meal sites. Schedule flexibility and availability are required. There is no guaranteed number of hours from week to week; hours may vary based on coverage needs. Hours are approximately 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM (with flexibility required), working 4-5 hours within that timeframe depending on the needs of the site/location. This opportunity could work well for someone with schedule flexibility seeking additional income, transitioning into retirement, or anyone looking to stay engaged in meaningful work while maintaining flexibility. Due to business needs, this position will not be converted into a regular full-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct educational programs related to the human services field
  • Determine if referrals are appropriate and whether clients are eligible for sponsored programs
  • Implement, coordinate, and monitor programs and projects related to human services
  • Provide internal and external customer service
  • Implement various programs or projects
  • Provide referral services to customers
  • Coordinate volunteers
  • May be required to staff shelters in the event of a disaster
  • Client registrations and assessments
  • Meal distribution and facilitating activities for social engagement

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of related experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License
  • County Driving Privileges

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of computers and technical skills, including database navigation
  • Experience with the Senior Adult population
  • Experience teaching and/or presenting to large groups
  • Experience with Food Safety and Food Service
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

Pay

$20.00 per hour (non-exempt, hourly position)

Schedule

  • 15-19 hours per week, as needed (no guaranteed hours)
  • Monday – Friday, approximately 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM (flexibility required)
  • 4-5 hours per day, depending on site needs

Work Environment

Works in an office setting with moderate noise.
