Sr Social Worker - PRN (As Needed)

About the role

This position is an hourly version of an exempt role, typically used for part-time or PRN assignments. It specializes in helping families adjust to acute and ongoing medical stressors, providing psychiatric, psychological, and biopsychosocial support for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency departments. Services include diagnostic evaluations, behavioral management of ill children, and coordination of patient care. The role also equips families with practical coping strategies to address emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with medical experiences.

Responsibilities

• Perform psychiatric and biopsychosocial screening and assessment of patients and families to meet healthcare needs.
• Obtain information from patients/families, diagnose, provide therapeutic interventions, and make referrals for families in crisis.
• Offer supportive counseling to aid adjustment to a patient’s condition and hospitalization.
• Conduct psychiatric evaluations for children, adolescents, and families, focusing on mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, including risk of suicidality and safety.
• Evaluate clinical needs, recommend treatment and discharge plans, and provide therapeutic crisis intervention.
• Supervise, train, and instruct social work department employees and graduate students on therapeutic service provision.
• Develop and facilitate professional education on behavioral and mental health issues for clinical social work staff.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
• At least 5 years of experience as a professional social worker in healthcare.
• At least 2 years of experience in pediatric healthcare.
• Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience.
• Texas LCSW licensure required.
