This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and future vacancies within the Health and Human Services Agency for up to six months. The current vacancy is located in Visalia. Spanish bilingual designated positions receive an additional $0.63 per hour; a Spanish proficiency exam is required.
Responsibilities
- Interview clients at home, over the telephone, or in the office to assess health, mental health, and/or social services needs.
- Assist professional staff with less complex aspects of case management.
- Make referrals to community resources and assist clients in accessing services.
- Prepare case narratives; maintain manual and electronic case records.
- Develop public information and education materials for client use.
Requirements
Education
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Knowledge
- Office procedures and practices, including computer usage.
- Interviewing and information-gathering methods and techniques.
- Basic math and record-keeping methods and techniques.
Skills/Abilities
- Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds, respecting diverse beliefs, interpersonal styles, and behaviors.
- Operate contemporary office equipment, including computers and electronic devices.
- Learn and integrate parenting assessment into supervised visitation services for families.
- Prepare or complete forms, reports, records, correspondence, and other documents.
- Conduct interviews to gather information and handle sensitive situations tactfully.
- Evaluate assessment results to identify areas of improvement and develop objective recommendations.
- Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Communicate concisely and effectively both orally and in writing.
- Organize and maintain work assignments, including detailed case information.
- Write clear and concise reports, case narratives, and correspondence.
- Input and retrieve data from computerized tracking systems.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information and materials.
- Speak, read, and write Spanish (may be required).
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license.

- Candidates selected may be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- A background investigation may be conducted, including re-investigation every 10 years for some positions.

- Vacation Accrual:
- 2 weeks per year (0-3 years of service)
- 3 weeks per year (3-7 years of service)
- 4 weeks per year (7-11 years of service)
- 5 weeks per year (11+ years of service)
- Sick Leave Accrual: 12 days per year with unlimited accumulation; 60 hours may be used for family sick leave.
- Career Incentive Pay: Employees with five or more years of service earn additional pay:
- 5 years: 3% increase
- 10 years: 5% total increase
- 15 years: 8% total increase
- 20 years: 10% total increase
- Group Term Life Insurance and AD&D: $10,000 provided by Standard Insurance Company.
- Disability Insurance: Covered by State Disability Insurance; premium paid by the employee.
- Deferred Compensation: Voluntary deferred compensation plan available.
- Annual Benefit Amount: Provided to apply toward health insurance premiums (medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability). Pro-rated and paid on a pay-period basis (24 pay periods).
