About the Role

Looking Glass is hiring Social Service Assistants to join our Regional Crisis Center (RCC) Programs. The RCC is a subacute residential facility where youth are placed directly from the Department of Human Services. RCC provides residential living facilities, mental health treatment, family counseling, substance use disorders treatment, and academic instruction to clients who are often combative and have multiple mental or behavioral challenges.

RCC uses verbal de-escalation tactics as well as treatments such as seclusion rooms and full-body restraints when necessary to ensure the safety of our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, coordinate, and supervise group activities at the RCC program.
  • Maintain consistency and safety among clients.
  • Observe and record behavior patterns, aid in service planning, and document necessary behaviors.
  • Help clients with skill-building and provide directions in performing daily housekeeping duties, chores, physical activity, recreation, hygiene, and school work.
  • Complete crisis intervention and de-escalate clients daily utilizing crisis intervention techniques learned during training.
  • Perform approved manual restraints when a client is a direct threat to themselves or others, as specified by the state.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social science or related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience working in a residential setting with at-risk youth required.
  • Experience frequently performing approved manual restraints.
  • Eligible for QMHA (Qualified Mental Health Associate) certification preferred.
  • Valid Oregon Driver's license and insurable under the agency's insurance.
  • Prior experience working with combative at-risk youth, preferably in a residential setting, or experience working in a challenging, high-paced environment applicable to this line of work.
  • Ability to maintain strong professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Must pass crisis intervention training within the first month of employment.
  • Must successfully complete a background check conducted by the State of Oregon.

Schedule

  • Day shift: 7am–5pm
  • Swing shift: 2pm–12am
  • Overnight: 10pm–8am
