About the role

This position requires the incumbent to be of the same gender (male) as that of the clients being served. The primary duties involve independently providing supportive services to clients, participating in team activities, and conducting limited field work.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provides all supportive services for a unit or team.
  • Participates in team activities.
  • Does limited field work including checking with clients, encouraging them to use available resources, following up on cases on a periodic basis, and relaying information, problems, and observations to the professional staff.

Requirements

  • Education Requirement: Graduation from high school.
  • Experience of the type described below or work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for lack of high school education.
  • Specialized Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in such programs as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing; e.g., performing clerical tasks in processing various documents, transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations, explaining to clients or tenants the services available, assisting in overseeing group activities such as bowling and swimming.
  • Substitutions Allowed: Training received at an accredited college or university may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of three (3) years. Satisfactory completion of a social service aid and assistant curriculum at an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college which resulted in a Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Science or related degree may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Qualifications

  • Driver's License: Some positions require a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: For some positions, applicants may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities. Applicants who may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities must not have engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution; been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in b above; or have been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
