Position Details

General Scope of Duties: The social media strategist acts as community manager, digital content creator and content curator for Connecticut College’s main social media channels.

  • Oversee the College’s social media accounts and calendar, develop engaging content based on strategy and the College brand
  • Serve as primary point of contact for the social media accounts of Connecticut College, responding to inquiries from internal and external audiences
  • Run reports and use data to inform social media strategy
  • Work alongside the Social Media Content Creator (Video) to develop engaging video content
  • Supervise and lead digital content interns
  • Lead weekly meetings with the interns
  • Use analytics and data to inform decision-making about social media and digital communications and marketing
  • Track engagement across channels and provide analysis and recommendations to ensure greatest reach
  • Produce reports for the Director of Digital Marketing on key initiatives, goals and accomplishments
  • Serve as a social media consultant within the College, working with constituents across campus to build a vibrant campus social media presence, with an emphasis on collaboration with media/public relations, Advancement and Admission
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and anticipate, respond to and adjust to current best practices for existing and emerging social platforms
  • Examine and test new platforms as appropriate and explore strategies for gaining engagement
  • Manage the College’s social media scheduling tool and create and maintain process documents to ensure robust backup systems and establish protocols and training systems
  • Provide training and guidance for social media managers across campus
  • Develop an annual content plan to support integrated communications
  • Draft and execute content plans for key events campaigns

Education and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or digital content field, such as filmography
  • 3-5 years of experience in social media
  • Proficiency with design tools (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of online social media tools
  • Basic photography and videography skills required
  • Demonstrated problem-solver with strong critical thinking skills
  • Comfort with technology and data management
  • High integrity and professionalism
  • Able to work gracefully under pressure, plan and accomplish goals
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills are critical
  • Self-motivated and able to collaborate closely and provide solution-driven, positive thinking in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Sprout Social or similar social media scheduling/monitoring tools
  • Experience in higher education

$58,000-$61,200
