Social Engagement Specialist (work from home)

About the role
Reporting to the Director of Social Engagement, the Social Engagement Specialist will develop and execute compelling social-first content to promote the Red Cross mission. This is a 100% remote position, and the selected candidate must work an East Coast schedule while being located anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Create innovative, social-first content for national American Red Cross social media channels, developing platform-specific strategies that drive engagement, audience growth, and brand relevance.
- Develop compelling, people-centered storytelling that brings the American Red Cross mission to life, increases audience awareness, and inspires action.
- Serve as the primary social media point of contact for Training Services, Service to the Armed Forces, Volunteer Services, Youth Engagement, Archives, and Mission, Impact & Inclusion, helping these teams translate initiatives and business goals into engaging social-first content.
- Work with the Social Engagement team and stakeholders across the organization to execute social media strategies for national campaigns.
- Measure and evaluate social media performance, utilizing data and audience insights to inform content strategy, communicate results to stakeholders, and drive buy-in.
- Manage social engagement projects, coordinating deliverables in a timely manner.
- Serve as a social media subject matter expert, providing training, technical guidance, and strategic counsel to regional communicators and stakeholders.
- Occasionally work irregular or extended hours, especially during disasters or other emergencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience, including social media management, editorial production, communications, marketing, and/or corporate-related public relations and digital content creation.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with familiarity with AP style.
- Strong critical thinking and strategic planning skills to create engaging, audience-centric content.
- Proven track record of producing compelling and engaging content and strategizing around social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Threads, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
- Experience producing social video and using social media management platforms like Sprout Social.
- Proficiency in using data to inform content strategy, including analyzing content performance, audience behaviors, and channel trends.
- Understanding of SEO principles and how to apply them to create and optimize content for search and audience discoverability.
- Familiarity with and commitment to the Red Cross mission.
- Ability to collaborate and build positive relationships with people at all levels of a large, complex organization, and be an independent problem solver.
- Comfortable working with and managing volunteers.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States (the American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas).
Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000, aligned to the specific geographic location where the work is primarily performed. Other factors, such as skills and experience, may also be considered in determining the actual salary.
