Position Overview

MSTG (Music, Science, Technology Group) is seeking Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Facilitators to launch a new SEL component within its afterschool enrichment program at a public elementary school serving students in grades K–6.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate engaging, age-appropriate SEL lessons using provided curriculum and materials.
  • Build warm, respectful relationships with students and create spaces where they feel seen, heard, and included.
  • Support students individually and in small groups with mindfulness practice, emotional awareness, expressive arts, communication, conflict navigation, and relationship skills.
  • Approach students with cultural responsiveness and humility, remaining sensitive and attuned to the diverse identities, lived experiences, family backgrounds, communities, and conditions that shape their lives.
  • Assist with classroom community-building and model restorative approaches to communication and conflict.
  • Collaborate with MSTG teaching staff to support student well-being and a positive classroom environment.
  • Participate in regular training, professional development, coaching, and reflective practice with the SEL Director.
  • Complete a brief daily facilitator log documenting lessons, student engagement, notable observations, and areas for follow-up.

Training & Professional Development

  • Ongoing training and support in Social-Emotional learning and child development.
  • Culturally responsive and relationship-centered approaches to working with young people.
  • Restorative practices and conflict navigation.
  • Group facilitation techniques.
  • Weekly curriculum preparation and lesson modeling.
  • Supporting students through emotional and interpersonal challenges.
  • Reflective practice, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Who We're Looking For

This role may be a great fit for college students and emerging professionals studying or interested in education, child development, psychology, social work, counseling, youth development, or related fields. Previous experience working with children or young people—in schools, afterschool programs, camps, tutoring, mentoring, childcare, or similar settings is preferred. Strong candidates will bring warmth, reliability, emotional maturity, strong communication skills, and a genuine interest in supporting young people. They should demonstrate a willingness to remain curious about experiences different from their own, recognizing that students' identities, families, communities, and life circumstances all shape how they experience learning, relationships, and emotional well-being.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Monday–Friday | 12:30–4:30 PM On-site classroom facilitation and student support.
  • Total Weekly Hours: Approximately 20–25 hours per week.
  • Compensation: $25/hour.
