About the Role

The Snow Removal Operator is responsible for operating snow removal and/or de‑icing equipment to ensure the safety and accessibility of client properties during winter weather events. Depending on operational needs and assignment, this role involves the safe and efficient operation of plow trucks, skid steers, front‑end loaders, salt spreaders, and related equipment to clear snow and ice and/or apply de‑icing materials to driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, and other designated areas. Under the supervision of an Operations Manager, the operator responds promptly to weather conditions and maintains equipment to support successful completion of snow and ice management services.

Responsibilities

  • Snow Removal Operations (as assigned): Operate snow removal equipment (plow trucks, skid steers, front‑end loaders) safely and efficiently to clear snow and ice from driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, and entryways; monitor weather conditions and respond promptly to snowfall and icy conditions; provide exceptional customer service by addressing client concerns and ensuring satisfaction with completed work.
  • De‑Icing & Treatment Operations (as assigned): Operate salt spreaders and de‑icing application equipment to apply salt, sand, brine, or other approved de‑icing materials according to weather conditions and client specifications; determine appropriate material application rates based on temperature, precipitation type, and surface conditions; apply materials efficiently and according to environmental and safety guidelines.
  • Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Safely operate and maintain assigned snow removal and/or de‑icing equipment; inspect equipment daily to ensure it is in good working condition; perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools, equipment, and vehicles; load, unload, and organize materials for daily operations; monitor material levels and report restocking needs; report mechanical issues or equipment malfunctions immediately to management.
  • Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of work performed, including time spent on each property and snow/ice conditions; for de‑icing operations, document materials used and application rates; track inventory of materials and report usage to management.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times; adhere to company policies and supervisor instructions; report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately; maintain awareness of environmental concerns when applying materials; participate in daily job briefings or safety meetings as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience operating snow removal equipment and/or de‑icing application equipment is preferred but not required; training will be provided. Prior heavy equipment operation or outdoor equipment experience is a plus.
  • Licensing/Certification: Valid state driver’s license required for plow or salt truck positions.
  • Skills: Ability to operate heavy equipment and specialized snow removal and/or de‑icing machinery safely and efficiently; knowledge of snow removal techniques and/or de‑icing materials and appropriate usage; excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality work; dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively in a team setting; strong work ethic and willingness to learn new equipment and techniques; ability to work in cold and challenging weather conditions for extended periods; ability to adapt quickly to changing weather forecasts and work priorities.

  • Prompt response to weather conditions and timely completion of assigned snow removal and/or de‑icing tasks.
  • Accurate record‑keeping of work performed and materials used (when applicable).
  • Equipment maintenance and upkeep to ensure reliable operation throughout the season.
  • Strong communication with management and crew members regarding conditions and needs.
  • Consistent adherence to safety protocols and company policies on all job sites.

Working Conditions

Requires the ability to sit for extended periods while operating heavy equipment, as well as regular use of hands and arms to control machinery and perform equipment maintenance. Employees must be able to lift and carry materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier loads being team‑assisted or reasonably accommodated. The role involves focused attention and coordination, and may occasionally involve climbing, reaching, or working at heights when servicing or inspecting equipment.
