About the Role

The Snow Removal Operator is responsible for operating snow removal and/or de‑icing equipment to ensure the safety and accessibility of client properties during winter weather events. Under the supervision of an Operations Manager, the operator responds promptly to weather conditions, operates plow trucks, skid steers, front‑end loaders, salt spreaders, and related equipment, and maintains that equipment to support successful snow and ice management services.

Responsibilities

• Snow Removal Operations (as assigned):
  • Operate snow removal equipment (plow trucks, skid steers, front‑end loaders) safely and efficiently to clear snow and ice from driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, and entryways.
  • Monitor weather conditions and respond promptly to snowfall and icy conditions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing client concerns and ensuring satisfaction with completed work.
• De‑icing & Treatment Operations (as assigned):
  • Operate salt spreaders and de‑icing application equipment to apply salt, sand, brine, or other approved materials according to weather conditions and client specifications.
  • Determine appropriate material application rates based on temperature, precipitation type, and surface conditions.
  • Apply materials efficiently and in accordance with environmental and safety guidelines.
• Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
  • Safely operate and maintain assigned snow removal and/or de‑icing equipment.
  • Inspect equipment daily to ensure it is in good working condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Load, unload, and organize materials for daily operations; monitor material levels and report restocking needs.
  • Report mechanical issues or equipment malfunctions immediately to management.
• Record Keeping:
  • Keep accurate records of work performed, including time spent on each property and snow/ice conditions.
  • For de‑icing operations, document materials used and application rates.
  • Track inventory of materials and report usage to management.
• Safety & Compliance:
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times.
  • Adhere to company policies and supervisor instructions.
  • Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.
  • Maintain awareness of environmental concerns when applying materials.
  • Participate in daily job briefings or safety meetings as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience operating snow removal equipment and/or de‑icing application equipment is preferred but not required; training will be provided. Prior heavy equipment or outdoor equipment experience is a plus.
• Licensing/Certification: Valid state driver’s license required for plow or salt truck positions.

Working Conditions

The role requires extended periods of sitting while operating heavy equipment, frequent use of hands and arms for machinery control and maintenance, and the ability to lift and carry materials and tools up to 50 lb (heavier loads may be team‑assisted). Work is performed outdoors in winter conditions, exposing the employee to snow, ice, cold, wind, and occasional rain, as well as noise from equipment and exhaust fumes. De‑icing operations may involve exposure to salt and chemical de‑icing materials, which can cause skin or respiratory irritation; appropriate PPE and hygiene practices are required. The position may involve working on roads, highways, uneven terrain, near traffic, or within active construction zones, and may require climbing, reaching, or working at heights when servicing equipment. Personal protective equipment such as insulated gloves, safety glasses, heavy clothing layers, and boots is mandatory. The employee must be available for early starts, overtime, shift work, nights, weekends, and holidays during active winter weather events; schedules are weather‑dependent and may involve extended hours during significant snow or ice events.
