SNAP Program Specialist Waivers and Special Programs Northern
About the role
You will play a key role in supporting an exciting new initiative within North Dakota’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Through the SNAP Waiver program and the Double Up Bucks (DUB) program, you will help strengthen our efforts to support North Dakotans in making healthier food choices and increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables across the state.
Responsibilities
- Support SNAP Waivers, Double Up Bucks (DUB), and other special SNAP initiatives
- Work closely with SNAP retailers, community partners, and both internal and external stakeholders to promote healthy food choices and ensure effective delivery of program activities
- Maintain and analyze program performance data
- Provide training and technical assistance to support compliance and continuous improvement
- Ensure that SNAP Waiver and special program activities align with federal and state regulations, policies, and organizational goals
- Travel to visit retailers, observe how programs are operating in real time, and identify opportunities to provide additional support or clarification
- Build strong community connections to help develop and expand these programs
- Identify training needs and educational opportunities to ensure individuals receiving SNAP benefits understand what is eligible for purchase and how programs like Double Up Bucks can support healthier choices
- Collaborate with participating retailers to encourage increased availability of fresh fruits and vegetables for consumers
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in nutrition, public health, social services, business or another health and human services related degree
- Two (2) years of professional work experience related to a health and human services program, program management
- Ability to travel and live within Northern North Dakota
Qualifications
- Basic Microsoft Office skills, including the ability to work with Excel for reporting and data tracking
- Adaptable, solutions-oriented, and able to balance big-picture thinking with attention to detail
Skills
- Familiarity with grocery and convenience store SNAP policies
- Strategic thinking and ability to identify root causes of challenges
- Confidence in communicating with diverse audiences and providing training in various settings
