Job Summary
The DDC Scope/Scrub Sterile Technician processes, sterilizes, and stores supplies and equipment used throughout the hospital under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, Associate Chief Nursing Officer, and Director of Surgical Services. Key responsibilities include assembling and sterilizing needed instruments and trays, maintaining an updated instrument tray contents file, restocking supplies, and assisting in preparation, transportation, and supervision of patients. Duties also include performing scrub duties/cross-training, housekeeping, and assisting in maintenance of supplies. The technician must demonstrate knowledge of equipment operation and maintain education in surgical and related aspects.
- Determine and adjust workloads based on surgery schedules and staffing levels.
- Assist with orientation of new technicians as assigned.
- Work according to approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization.
- Attend mandatory and assigned Healthstream education requirements annually.
- Maintain all certifications and licensure requirements on time.
Responsibilities
- Process and sterilize supplies and equipment as needed.
- Maintain and update instrument tray contents file.
- Restock supplies and return equipment to proper storage area as necessary.
- Ensure adequate supplies are maintained in the unit.
- Assist in preparation, transportation, and supervision of patients during elective, urgent, and emergent cases.
- Perform scrub duties/cross-training if assigned.
- Assist in maintenance of all supplies, including rotating supplies and checking for expiration dates.
Requirements
Must demonstrate knowledge of location, care, and operation of equipment. Must be able to work and relate in a professional, non-defensive manner with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a sterile processing technology program or equivalent certification.
- Current certification in sterile processing technology.
- Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
