About the Role

The Smart Instructor position leads and manages programs under the Department of Education (“DOE”) and Department of Juvenile Justice (“DJJ”) grants. The role involves planning and conducting a well-rounded youth development program in the areas of Character & Leadership Development, Education (Homework Help) & Career Development, and Health & Life Skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct programs with written weekly plans
  • Mentor Club members
  • Report statistical information for DOE and/or DJJ grants
  • Assist Club members with the use of all equipment and software, including an orientation program
  • Promote and stimulate interest in assigned programs
  • Requisition needed supplies and control use of materials
  • Ensure Club members complete programs, including pre- and post-tests
  • Maintain Club members’ attendance during programs
  • Plan and execute recognition programs for youth completing specific programs
  • Establish and enforce appropriate disciplinary rules in the Club
  • Recruit Club members for programs as appropriate
  • Implement all Club policies, especially the Acceptable Use policy (computer policy)
  • Keep the Club clean and equipment in good working order
  • Promptly report all equipment repair needs
  • Assist other staff members in integrating programs into other areas
  • Communicate with management and Club staff about program needs
  • Participate in staff meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the Boys & Girls Club

Relationships

  • Internal: Maintain contact with Club program staff and Director
  • External: Maintain contact with members and parents as needed; provide advice and/or discipline

Requirements

  • AA Degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Ability to use technology as a means of instruction and program communication
  • Strong computer skills
  • Experience working with youth
  • Experience in teaching or education field preferred
  • CPR certified

The Clubs provide more than a safe, fun, and constructive alternative to being home alone—they offer a variety of award-winning developmental programs to help youth build skills, self-esteem, and values during critical periods of growth. The twenty Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Palm Beach County serve more than 10,000 children ages 6-18.
