About the role

We're looking for a Smart Building Analyst to improve the operational performance of our customers' buildings through data-driven analysis and actionable insight. In this role, you will analyze building system data, identify performance issues, and translate technical findings into clear recommendations that drive real-world results. The position focuses on Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD), continuous commissioning, and system-level performance evaluation across HVAC and building automation systems.

You will work closely with customers, field technicians, and internal stakeholders to prioritize issues, support corrective actions, and deliver measurable improvements in comfort, reliability, and energy performance. Success in this role requires a foundational understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, commercial HVAC equipment, and building automation systems, along with strong analytical and communication skills.

As an integral member of MacDonald-Miller's Smart Building Services team, this role is critical to the success of our service contracts that include Building Analytics. You will operate in a service-driven environment, take ownership of customer outcomes, and be accountable for key performance indicators tied to assigned accounts. This position can be either Union or Non-Union and offers meaningful ownership, growth opportunities, and increasing autonomy as you demonstrate impact.

Requirements

You should have a demonstrated ability to work closely with clients and deliver clear, high-quality communication that leads to a positive customer experience. You should have one or more of the following:

  • Mechanical field experience equivalent to a 4th-year union apprentice or higher, with hands-on exposure to commercial HVAC systems
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
  • Professional certifications such as CEM, CMVP, or BCxP (Building Commissioning Professional)

And experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Analyzing BAS and operational trend data to evaluate HVAC system performance
  • Identifying and diagnosing system-level performance issues across air-side and water-side systems
  • Supporting continuous commissioning or fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) efforts in occupied buildings
  • Collaborating with technicians, engineers, or operators to translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations
  • Experience with Niagara or Siemens software, IT networks in the built environment, or mechanical system design is a plus

Pay

  • Smart Building Analyst (5 to 10 years) - $97,000 to $126,000 Annually
  • Smart Building Analyst (10 years+) - $110,000 to $144,000 Annually

Schedule

The Smart Buildings Team offers a hybrid work experience mixing remote and in-office workdays. The exact mix is based on individual and group performances, but you should expect to be in-office or onsite with customers up to 3 days per week. The Analyst position adheres to the typical business hours of 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM M-F.

Our Seattle HQ office (17930 International Blvd, SeaTac, WA 98188) has easy access to the SeaTac International Airport, ample secured parking, and newly renovated office facilities, not to mention great views!
