About the Role
Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding by applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques. Positions, aligns, cuts, assembles, and fits metal components in various body positions and locations. Secures parts using bolts, clamps, and tack-welds for welding. Operates welding equipment including arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas arc to weld parts. Welds metal materials to piping systems using appropriate procedures for different equipment and metal types. Identifies all equipment and safety risks for each job and process.
Responsibilities
- Layout, position, align, cut, assemble, and fit metal components in various positions and locations.
- Bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts to secure in position for welding.
- Set up equipment and weld parts using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment.
- Weld metal materials to piping systems using appropriate welding procedures.
- Identify all equipment required for the job and process.
- Identify all safety risks and requirements.
- Assist pipe fitters in pipe installation, preparation, and fabrication when not actively welding.
- Work at heights as required.
Requirements
- Ability to weld in 2g, 4g, and 6g conditions.
- Ability to Stick and TIG weld on pipe.
- Must successfully pass a weld test.
- 4+ years of industrial welding experience.
- Required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the role.
- Meet all physical requirements of the job.
- Possess all required tools listed on start date.
- Read blueprints and other engineering drawings efficiently.
- Read and interpret technical manuals as applicable.
- 4+ years of experience welding on industrial size and grade pipe (Schedules: 40, 80, and 160).
- Thorough knowledge of various metals' characteristics, qualities, and the correct welding processes required.
- Experience welding multiple types of pipe including carbon steel, stainless, and chrome.
- Reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Zachry or Zachry ROF’ed employee.
- Former experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
- Previous experience in this position with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
- Current Zachry Certification.
- Experience working as an Industrial Pipe Fitter.
- Former experience working on a new construction project.
Physical Requirements
- Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting.
- Communicate by talking and hearing.
- Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
- Pick up, lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
- Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work off platforms/scaffolding using appropriate fall protection.
- Work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves, and leather steel-toed work boots.
