About the Role
A Combination Welder will weld, fabricate, and assist pipe fitters in installing various types of industrial pipe into project piping systems.
Responsibilities
- Select equipment and plan layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
- Layout, position, align, cut, assemble, and fit metal components in various body positions.
- Bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts to secure in position for welding.
- Set up equipment and weld parts using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or arc gas welding equipment.
- Weld metal materials to piping systems equipment using the appropriate welding procedure for various equipment and metal types.
- Identify all equipment for the job and process.
- Identify all safety risks and requirements.
- Assist pipe fitters in pipe installation, preparation, and fabrication when not actively welding.
- Read blueprints and other engineering drawings to efficiently perform work.
- Read and interpret technical manuals as applicable.
Requirements
- 4+ years of welding experience, specifically on industrial size and grade pipe (Schedules: 40, 80, and 160).
- Ability to successfully pass a weld test.
- Experience welding in 2g, 4g, and 6g conditions.
- Proficient in Stick and TIG welding on pipe.
- Experience welding multiple types of pipes, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and chrome.
- Thorough knowledge of various metals' characteristics and qualities, including the correct welding processes and effects of welding on materials.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with minimal infractions.
- Experience working with stainless steel and pumps.
Physical Demands
- Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting.
- Communicate by talking and hearing.
- Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
- May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
- Work at slight heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work from platforms using appropriate fall protection.
Work Environment
- Ability to work in weathering conditions, including heat, while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots.
