About the role
The Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital is seeking a Small Animal Emergency Technician.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical support to clinical faculty and senior veterinary students in the ICU/ECC sections of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
- Affords assistance in receiving emergency patients, helps triage and admits patients.
- Performs critical care nursing procedures in the Intensive Care Unit or treatment areas as directed by clinical faculty and instructs senior veterinary students in technical and manipulative skills relating to ECC/ICU during regular day shift or after hours shifts.
- On call and covers ICU shifts, including holidays.
- Affords assistance in other areas as directed by supervisor.
Requirements
- Licensed or licensed eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Veterinary Technician (LVT).
- Working knowledge of basic nursing skills.
- Ability to place intravenous catheters.
- Experience in critical care nursing in a veterinary medical setting.
- Knowledge of CPR.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to safely move and handle up to 50 lbs.
- Rabies prophylaxis will be required (provided by employer).
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 2 years experience in a veterinary clinical setting, with emphasis on emergency and critical care.
- VTS certification in ECC.
Pay
Starting at $45,000; commensurate with experience.
