About the role
The Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) is dedicated to supporting NASA’s SLS/ARTEMIS program, NASA’s HLS program, and other smaller NASA projects. We are seeking a Mission Analysis and Trajectory Design Engineer to support the Flight Dynamics Team in the Guidance, Navigation, & Mission Analysis branch at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.
Responsibilities
- Analyze launch vehicle and spacecraft, dynamics, equations of motion, and trajectories to assess performance of spacecraft trajectories, mission analysis, and related studies
- Model ascent and in-space environments, errors, disturbances, GN&C algorithms, sensors, actuators, and mechanisms
- Simulate and analyze nominal, contingency, and failure scenarios during ascent and in-space flight
- Develop algorithms and tools to analyze 3 DOF trajectories using Monte Carlo techniques
- Perform studies and insight analysis for NASA’s HLS program
- Execute/modify existing software/scripts in C, Python, C++, and Matlab
Qualifications
- A degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field from an ABET accredited institution
- Typical experience requirements are the equivalent of a master's with at least 3 years of experience, or a bachelor's with at least 5 years of experience
- Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID
- Detail oriented, works independently and collaboratively, possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with trajectory design and/or mission analysis, Python programming, Copernicus experience, Software & simulation integration, or Modeling & simulation experience
Duties
- Dynamic modeling of 3 and 6 DOF single body systems
- Mission design and analysis
- Trajectory design analysis
- Create, edit, and debug software written in C, Python, Matlab, Fortran, and C++
- Optimization and improvement of analysis tools and GN&C models
- Work with GN&C leads and other engineering disciplines
- Support the verification and validation of technical products
- Create and review engineering and software documentation
- Prepare and present technical reports and briefings
Physical Requirements
- Sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues
- Sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks
- Ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities
