Evaluates and Treats Patients

Evaluates patients within the scope of care in a cost-effective and appropriate manner for the patient's diagnosis, age, and culture. Designs and implements an appropriate treatment plan and evaluates treatment effects, recommending changes to physicians as necessary. Assesses patient pain that impedes optimal function or participation in rehabilitation, and provides interventions. Performs an appropriate assessment on all patients related to the therapy requested and reassesses as per policy. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and hospital policies are followed.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved professional school of Speech Therapy, or graduate of an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Speech Therapy or equivalent.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) - The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
  • California Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board license
  • One year experience in all aspects of speech therapy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year experience in all aspects of speech therapy.

Essential Functions

  • Participates in departmental goals and the advancement of rehab initiatives.
  • Collaborates with Rehab leadership in clinical and operational projects.
  • Maintains performance improvement activities within the department.
  • Participates in departmental activities, such as CQI, staff meetings, and chart review.
  • Participates in committees and system-wide activities when requested as departmental representative.
  • Documents and enters all elements of patient management in a timely, complete, legible, concise, and accurate manner. Follows Sharp HealthCare guidelines, professional guidelines, and meets third-party payor and regulatory requirements. Maintains records pertinent to departmental operations.
  • Communicates patient care and departmental issues. Accepts changes and demonstrates flexibility when asked regarding work schedules and assignments. Completes additional assignments in a timely manner. Offers suggestions for resolving operational issues within the department. Provides unit-specific information to students, floats, and travelers/registry personnel. Maintains departmental cleanliness and safety. Actively sets priorities and adjusts to unscheduled situations. Completes all regulatory requirements. Takes initiative in using time effectively. Meets productivity standards established by department leadership. Participates in interdisciplinary rounds, staffing, and/or PT conferences as required at various levels of care.
  • When functioning in NICU therapist, attends weekly NICU rounds as required.
