About the role

Slits printed rolls from the press or extruder into individual rolls according to customer specifications. Inspects material for quality and defects, then palletizes finished rolls for shipment.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate on-the-job training and instruction for team members on the correct use of tools and equipment to ensure proper safety and operating procedures.
  • Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Set up and operate slitting machines.
  • Use a lowboy to mount full rolls onto the machine.
  • Observe machine operation to detect material defects or malfunctions.
  • Measure material dimensions to verify accuracy of machine operation.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling, greasing, and changing female knives.
  • Prepare required paperwork, including daily production reports, SPC charting, roll tickets, and inventory tags.
  • Complete work orders as necessary.
  • Actively participate in safety programs and make safety observations.
  • Follow plant safety rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, as well as interpreting bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical demands

  • Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • May require manual lifting not to exceed 50 lbs (refer to department-specific Job Hazard Analysis for restrictions).
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work environment

  • Occasionally exposed to humid conditions, airborne particles, and vibration.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
